Spring Break Adventure at Bowers School Farm: Day One of Horse Camp!

Welcome to the first day of Spring Break Horse Camp at Bowers School Farm, where every moment is packed with excitement, learning, and a bit of farm magic! Our campers kicked off the week with a day full of laughter, teamwork, and, of course, horses! Here’s a recap of the fun-filled activities that made Day One unforgettable:

Icebreaker Games – Let’s Get to Know Each Other!

To start off the day, we played some fun icebreaker games to help everyone get comfortable. There were lots of laughs and high-energy moments as campers introduced themselves and got to know each other. It's always a blast to see new friendships form!

Farm Chores – Teamwork Makes the Dream Work!

After we broke the ice, it was time for some real farm work. Campers teamed up to help with morning chores, feeding and caring for the animals. From mucking out stalls to making sure the horses were ready for the day, our campers learned the importance of responsibility and teamwork—essential skills on any farm.

Tie-Dye Fun – Let Your Creativity Shine!

Next up, it was time for some colorful fun! Campers got creative with tie-dye bandanas, which they'll proudly wear for Friday's camp activities. The colors and designs were as unique as the campers themselves! It’s amazing to see how everyone expressed their individuality. Reminder: Don’t forget to follow the care instructions below for your tie-dye bandanas!

Tie-Dye Bandana Care Instructions

  1. Wash your bandana separately in cold water to set the dye.

  2. Air dry or dry on a low setting.

  3. Avoid bleach or harsh chemicals to keep your design vibrant!

Team Scavenger Hunt – Solving Clues Across the Farm!

Next, campers took part in a thrilling scavenger hunt around the farm. Armed with clues, they worked in teams to solve the puzzle hidden throughout the property. It was a race against time to see who could piece together the mystery first. When they finally cracked the code, the breed of horse spelled out in the clues was revealed! Ask your camper: What breed did your clues spell out?

Horse Grooming – Getting to Know Our Equine Friends!

Now for the real magic: getting up close and personal with the horses! Campers learned how to properly groom their horses, brushing them with care and attention. This hands-on activity helped them build a connection with these majestic animals and taught them the basics of horse care.

Day One Riding – Meet Clifford and Chance!

The excitement reached a peak when campers took their first ride of the week! Today, our campers got to know two very special horses—Clifford and Chance. Each camper had the chance to saddle up and practice their riding skills. Working in pairs to work together and continue to build camp friendships! It was amazing to see the joy on their faces as they navigated the riding arena, learning the basics of riding and gaining confidence in the saddle.

Pony Leading – A Fun, Hands-On Experience!

Pony leading was another highlight of the day. Campers took turns leading the ponies around the arena, learning how to guide and communicate with our two sweet ladies, Taffy and Patches. It was a perfect way to build trust and develop essential horsemanship skills.

Warming Up with Hot Cocoa – A Cozy Treat!

After all the fun and excitement, it was time to warm up with a cozy treat: hot cocoa! The campers gathered around, sipping on the delicious drink, sharing their favorite moments of the day, and looking forward to what tomorrow would bring.

Garden Kitchen Cowboy Caviar – A Healthy Snack!
