Jackpot Hog Show
A unique opportunity for our 4-H club and FFA chapter at Bowers Farm is the the lease program where youth have the chance to show an animal at the Oakland County Fair. This year we have 9 lease kids and 15 animals going to fair. These kids have spent all spring preparing their animals for show.
4-H members Abby and Katie as well as FFA member Becca traveled to Michigan State University on Sunday to attend a jackpot hog show with their project lease animals in preparation for fair.
Abby, Katie, and Becca each competed in a showmanship class and a market class. Showmanship is judged on how well the individual can present their animal, in addition to knowing basic animal skills along with their ability to maximize their animals’ strengthens and minimize their weaknesses in the show ring. Market class is solely judged on the individual animal. The judge will look at structure, muscle shape, and breed characteristics.
Be sure to stop in during open barn on 6/25/22 to give Bonnie, George, Waddles, and Speedy a pat on their backs for good work this past weekend!
