Belgian Draft Horse

Belgian Draft Horses originated from Belgium and were first brought to the United States in the 1800’s along with many other draft horses from Europe. They are working horses that are typically used for plowing, logging, and pulling carriages. Their average height is 16-17 hands (64-68 inches) and can weigh around 1,800-2,200 pounds. The most common color for Belgians in the United States is chestnut (red-brown). Here at Bowers, we have one Belgian draft referred to as Mack! This gentle giant is roughly 24 years young and spends his days on pasture enjoying retirement. We still lightly ride Mac, however, his work days are long over. Be sure to meet Mack the next time you visit Bowers and see just really how tall he is!
